Our Parks Legacy Group Plans Houlihan's Fundraiser

According to a Latin proverb, “It is well to remember that there are five reasons for drinking: the arrival of a friend, one’s present or future thirst, the excellence of the wine, or any other reason.”  On Thursday, Jan 10, one of those other reasons would be the Charity Guest Bartender Night at Houlihan’s in Park Ridge from 6 to 8 p.m. that will raise money to help pass the referendum to purchase the Youth Campus property.

Tips earned by guest bartenders who include Our Park’s Legacy Committee Members Mel Thillens, Jim Bolech and Dick Barton will be donated by Houlihan’s to Our Park’s Legacy Committee.  The committee was formed to help pass the referendum to purchase the 11+ acre property currently occupied by the Youth Campus which will be put to a vote on April 9.  A new addition to Park District services, this initiative would not be supported with the park district’s current funding sources.

A unique opportunity for the Park District to preserve open space, accommodate new programs and expand enrollment for existing programs, the property has a rich history that is known throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. For the past 130 years, it has been a place where the community cared for its most vulnerable children—104 years of that history has been at the Park Ridge location.

The effort to save the property currently occupied by the Youth Campus to be our next park in Park Ridge is gaining momentum and wide support. We invite the community to stop by Houlihan's the evening of Jan. 10 to have some fun and to show your support for open space in our community.
