UPDATE: Man Killed by Train on Father's Day Identified

The Lake County Coroner's Office says it's still unclear if the incident was a suicide.

UPDATE June 27 3:30 p.m.:

The Lake County Coroner's Office tells Barrington Patch the investigation in the Ghaussy death is still ongoing. For this reason, they cannot reveal if the incident has been labeled as a suicide, an accident or other another cause. The investigation should be wrapped up by mid-July. We will have more information for the public at that time.

Daoud (David) Ghaussy's obituary

...

The person hit and killed by a Metra train on June 17 has been identified.

The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified the deceased as 44-year-old Daoud Ghaussy of Barrington.

Ghaussy was struck by a Metra train at 11:15 a.m. on June 17 at the intersection of Cuba Road and Route 14. The Lake County Coroner's Office says Ghaussy's cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries. The incident is still under investigation, and authorities say they don't know if the death was suicide or accidental at this time.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department is handling the investigation. They have not released any information to Barrington Patch.

Trains are large, make lots of noise, have horns, with crossing guards and bells, lights, hard to get hit by one on an accident.

So many people have been committing suicide by trains in the suburbs in the past few years. It's pretty obvious this man did it, too.
If it was a "mistake", then he needed to get out of the gene pool. Darwin at work.

Digs,
As someone who knows the family at an acquaintance level you should read the obituary. This man was exceptional. He was fluent in 6 languages. He spent time mentoring students, has an MBA from University of Chicago and a philanthropist at heart. He loved his children dearly. Such a callous comment is unnecessary. As a bystander you are unable to put yourself in his shoes that would lead to an understanding of his decision if it even was his decision. It is still unclear, if it was an accident. Perhaps, the gene for compassion should be re-examined for our gene pool.

McCloud and Digs,
Please keep in mind that this was someones spouse, father, brother, child, neighbor and friend. Careless words can can cause a great deal of unnecessary pain. It may not be appropriate to judge a situation without better understanding the circumstances. Be kind.

Dear Barrington Il Patch Editor,
Please consider removing the posts submitted by McCloud and Digs. I have flagged them as inappropriate, and after reading the posts that follow theirs, I do not think I'm the only one. Free Speech is one thing-cruel, coarse and thoughtless comments made about a tragedy like this do not deserve a public (public, but invisible) forum. There may be children and/or family members of the victim reading this. Please hold your comments section to a higher standard. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Babs,

I do have compassion for the family and friends of Mr. Ghaussy and am very sorry for their loss. However, the previous commenters did not violate any Patch terms of service, so I cannot remove them.

Interesting-I would have thought they qualified as "offensive." Typically I do not have any problem with the commentary that follows an article. It is baffling to me though, that the comments section is not suspended in articles like this one. Inevitably there are thoughtless and insensitive remarks, which do not serve any purpose other than to cause pain. This is not an article about politics, taxes or some other topic we all love to debate-it is the report of a tragic death. Why would anyone comment on this other than to offer condolences to the family? I do wish that your editorial board would consider suspending and/or at least limiting commentary following these types of articles. It would set a standard for other media providing this type of forum.

AGREED. As written by Miami Herald columnist Leonard Pitts Jr., anonymous comment forums "have become havens for a level of crudity, bigotry, meanness and plain nastiness that shocks the tattered remnants of our propriety." Yes, Patch (and all other news media) could minimally consider suspending and/or at least limit commentary following these types of articles where any discussion is not warranted.
