Park Ridge Rotary Debuts Charity Guest Bartender at Houlihan's

Houlihan's Park Ridge began its first Charity Guest Bartender Night Thursday, Sept. 13, and plans to highlight different non-profit organizations one Thursday each month through the fall by allowing members to bartend and make tips to raise funds.

The Park Ridge Rotary Club was the first non-profit organization to take advantage of Houlihan's Charity Guest Bartender Night on Thursday, Sept. 13.

The restaurant is allowing different non-profits the opportunity to raise funds one Thursday each month this fall, by allowing organization members to be a guest bartender and generate tips during a two-hour period.

"We are happy to support charity members in our community that help to make Park Ridge a great place to live," said Wendy Schultz, Houlihan's general manager.

"We think this is a wonderful way to promote these organizations, while helping them raise funds," Schultz said.

The Rotary Club plans to donate money raised from tips to the End Polio Now campaign, sponsored by the Rotary International Foundation

"Since 1985, more than $1 billion has been raised, and 1.3 million Rotarians have travelled around the globe to provide immunizations to prevent polio," said Charlotte Ogorek, Rotary Foundation chair.

The goal, through raising funds, is to eradicate polio in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria, the last three countries left in the world where the disease has not been adequately addressed, Ogorek said.

"Our mission is to make a difference and do good in the world, and this effort is one of the many ways that we do this," said John Davis, Park Ridge Rotary president.

Thanks to Houlihan's and Wendy Schultz for inviting the Rotary Club of Park Ridge to serve as Guest Bartenders. The generosity of so many friends of Rotary will help to eliminate polio from our world. Thank you for your support. We had a fabulous time at Houlihan's Restaurant.

Wendy, we had a great time. Hope we didn't annoy Bridget and Jay and James too much. We were thrilled to be the "first" for such a great event. Hope you benefited, too, from some extra customers. . .too bad the Bears didn't cooperate. Thanks again for letting us participate in your "guest" bartending program.

Hey, everyone. The "unidentified man" in the picture w/Sue Saccomanno is my husband, George Ogorek. Sue is his sister.

Wendy, thanks so much for giving Rotary a chance to do what it does best: Service Above Self. You and your great team helped us to raise money for a very worthy cause, the End Polio Now program of Rotary International. Our hope is that our little effort last night will keep many children free from the horrible disease of Polio. On behalf of the club, thank you so very much.
