Khan, a 2003 graduate of Maine South, spoke to students about his experiences in politics.  Specifically, he shared the insights he gained as a traveling aide to Hillary Clinton during her 2008 Presidential Campaign and as special assistant to Alexi Giannoulias during his 2010 United States Senate Campaign.  According to Khan, it was these experiences that convinced him to enter public service.  “Witnessing, first-hand, the degree to which people are struggling everywhere, it makes you wonder how you can help,” Khan says.

Khan stressed the importance of investing in education; particularly, increasing the speed at which technology is integrated into local schools.  He believes that allowing kids to develop technology based skills, such as computer coding and web design, at an early age is vital to future economic growth.  Khan told students, “Technology is rapidly advancing and to keep up, our classrooms have got to be on the cutting edge.  Why can’t the person who starts the next Facebook or Google be from the 20th district?”

Khan, a native and resident of Park Ridge, reminisced with the students about his own high school days.  “The lessons I learned from my teachers and football coaches established the foundation for my career.  I was very fortunate that I was able to attend Maine South,” Khan says.

The 20th District includes parts of Chicago’s 41st ward, Park Ridge, Des Plaines, Niles, Franklin Park, Schiller Park, Rosemont, Harwood Heights and Norridge.
