Summit of Uptown Offers Free Music Programs

To borrow an image from an iconic Teresa Brewer hit from 1950, you won’t have to put another nickel in the nickelodeon to enjoy music, music, music at three free programs in June at The Summit of Uptown, 10 N. Summit (at Touhy) in Park Ridge. Please call 847-825-1161, ext. 129, for reservations four days prior to each event. Light refreshments will be served. Great patriotic music will be the focus of the first program on Thursday, June 13, at 1:30 p.m. “Stars & Stripes Forever” will feature the works of popular composers including John Philip Sousa, who was known as “The March King” and George M. Cohan, who received a Congressional Medal of Honor for writing “Over There.” Jack Diamond will trace the life and career Jerry Vale, popular Italian-American singer on Friday, June 14, at 1:30 p.m. Vale’s version of “The Star –Spangled Banner,” recorded in the late 1960s, was a fixture at many sporting events for years. Larry Bergnach showcases “Those Memorable 1930s” on Friday, June 21, at 1:30 p.m. Focusing on the music, movies and events of a decade, his program will cover many of the instantly recognizable melodies, films and news that have become part of our culture. Guests are encouraged to arrive early or stay late for tours of the newly renovated retirement community. Those who attend are eligible for the Summit Guest Rewards Program which offers opportunities to earn rewards and prizes such as gift cards or lunch or brunch for two at Summit. Parking is available in the City’s central parking lot and the Uptown lot across the street.
