Pink Taxi Presents Paint Our Town Pink

When/Where: Friday, Oct. 5, 4-11 p.m., kick off party for Pink Day atHoulihan’s, 550 W. Touhy Ave. in Park Ridge.

Why Go: Join a night of fun and give back! Pink Taxi will donate 100 percent of proceeds on Pink Day from all taxi rides to the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Awareness.

There will be a Zumba Pink aerobic event, 6-7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Church gym, 260 N. Northwest Highway in Park Ridge. For more information about Pink Day, visit www.PaintOurTownPink.com.

Electronics Recycling Event

When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 6, 9 a.m. to noon at the Public Works Service Center, 400 Busse Highway in Park Ridge.

Why Go: The Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce, the City of Park Ridge and the Park Ridge Park District organized another Electronics Recycling Day at the Park Ridge Public Works Service Center.
 Drop off office electronics and similar items. The items that will be accepted include cell phones, computers and batteries.

Pricing: $5 per car.

2012 Greek Film Fest Chicago

When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 6, 2:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Pickwick Theatre,5 S. Prospect Ave. in Park Ridge.

Why Go: The 2012 Greek Film Fest Chicago will feature contemporary, juried-selected films including feature-length, documentaries, shorts and student films, from Hellenic filmmakers worldwide.

The five-day event will include screenings of 24 films at 4 theatres throughout the area: the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago, the Pickwick Theater in Park Ridge, the Film Row Cinema, Columbia College and the National Hellenic Museum in Chicago.

Pricing: $10.

Park Ridge Farmers' Market

When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 6, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Prairie Avenue and Garden Street in Park Ridge.

Why Go: The Park Ridge Farmers' Market features fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, handmade soaps, flowers, potted plants and more.

Pricing: Free.

Citizens Utility Board Phone Bill Clinic

When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 6, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood Ave. in Des Plaines.

Why Go: Citizens Utility Board, CUB, will bring several staff members to sit down with consumers, one-on-one, to analyze their landline phone bills. Staff will go over what their options are and how they can save money on their phone bills.

Please bring a copy of your phone bill to the clinic in order to have your bill looked at.

Pricing: Free.

Late Night in the Park

When/Where: Saturday, Oct. 6, 7-11 p.m. at Mountain View Adventure Center, 510 E. Algonquin Road in Des Plaines.

Why Go: Special Saturday nights for those in grades 5-10 at Mountain View Adventure Center where friends meet for an evening of recreational fun. The admission fee gets you a wristband that gives you to unlimited use of the batting cages and miniature golf.

The concession stand will be open to purchase food and beverages. This event is adult supervised. Registration is not required; pay at the door. Late Night in the Park is weather dependent.

Pricing: $10.

Big Noise Theatre presents "Jesus Christ Superstar"

When/Where: Sept. 28 through Oct. 21, weekends, at Big Noise Theatre at Prairie Lakes, 515 E. Thacker St. in Des Plaines.

Why Go: Based on a concept album project written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of the final seven days in the life of Jesus Christ through the troubled eyes of Judas Iscariot. The show is a musical theater staple, having just been revived recently on Broadway.

Pricing: Tickets for adults, $25, seniors $23, students with school ID and children 12 years old and younger $16.

The Pet Blessing at Christ Church United Church of Christ

When/Where: Sunday, Oct. 7, 1-2 p.m. at Christ Church United Church of Christ, 1492 Henry Ave. in Des Plaines.

Why Go: Pastor Virginia Ericson will perform the Blessing of Pets in the church parking lot. Service will be in Wobbe Hall in case of rain.  All are invited to attend.

Hawks in Flight Photography

When/Where: Monday, October 8, 2012, 7-9 p.m. at Arndt Park, 1990 White St. in Des Plaines.

Why Go: The Des Plaines Camera Club will feature Vic Berardi’s presentation, “Hawks In Flight Photography.” Vic will discuss the techniques and equipment he uses to capture high quality images of raptors in flight. He will also discuss places to go and best times of the year. Some discussion will be given to perched raptors and creative techniques.

Pricing: Free.
