St. Matthew Center for Health and Intouch Home Care to Sponsor an Educational Session on Parkinson’s Disease

“LSVT BIG…An Introduction”

On Tuesday, January 28th St. Matthew Center for Health and Intouch Home Care, both programs of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI), will sponsor an educational session entitled, “LSVT BIG… An Introduction.” The event will take place from 10-11 a.m. at the Frisbie Senior Center, located at 52 E. Northwest Hwy. in Des Plaines. Eva Krecisz will give an overview of LVST BIG, a research-based exercise program that has been proven to improve the balance, trunk rotation and walking ability of people with Parkinson’s disease.

The session will occur at the monthly support group meetings for people with Parkinson’s and their caregivers. The session will include a demonstration of the exercise program as well as a question and answer period after the demonstration.

Krecisz is an expert in this field with a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation at the Academy of Physical Education in Krakow, Poland and is certified in LSVT BIG. She is the vice president of PDR Physical Therapy and Wellness in Mount Prospect where she leads the team that specializes in this ground breaking treatment for patients with Parkinson’s disease. In addition, she has specialized training in Lymphedema from the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and provides treatment for Lymphedema at PDR’s Chicago office.

LSSI’s Intouch Home Care Services has been providing affordable, non-medical home care services in the Chicago area since 1981, allowing seniors to maintain their lives in their own homes. Trained home care assistants help seniors and their families by providing meal preparation, light housekeeping, companionship, shopping, personal care services, transportation to appointments and medication reminders.

St. Matthew Center for Health, located in Park Ridge at 1601 N. Western Avenue, has been serving Park Ridge and surrounding communities since 1959 by providing excellent skilled and intermediate long-term care, rehabilitation services, dementia/Alzheimer’s services and respite care.
