A Christmas Carol

Bah! Humbug! Don’t be a Scrooge! Come enjoy Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" on Sunday, December 9, at 3:00 PM at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Park Ridge.

Lyric Opera's Frank Babbitt, well-known Chicago actor and musician, will return to present this holiday classic as a solo performance with musical underscore to the 1868 Public Reading Text that Dickens used while on his public reading tours in Europe and America.  Mr. Babbitt notes, “Dickens was an enthusiastic actor and first read the "Carol" in public as a benefit for a charitable organization that assisted the poor. The central message of the piece is the true celebration of what Scrooge's nephew observes as ‘a good time, a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time; the only time I know of in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut up hearts freely.’”

In this spirit, freewill donations and canned goods will be accepted to help support the Maine Township Food Pantry.
