Maine South Iron Chef Competition

This event will take place on April 10, at 3:30-4:30 in the Maine South student cafeteria. Admission is only for Maine South Students.

This event will be for the benefit of the school wide fundraiser which this year is the American Red Cross. The competition will consist of two teams facing off in a cooking challenge (students v. teachers.) The food is being supplied by GFS Food Services. The equipment is being provided by Quest Food Management. The equipment that will be available to the teams is as follows: hot burner, saute pans, chopping board, knives, forks, spoons, ice cream scooper and serving dishes.

Each team will have 20 minutes to create three dishes (main entree, dessert, and a vegetarian side.) The ingredients given to the teams are yet to be determined for sure but will consist of staple food items along with a secret ingredient that must be included in the main entree and vegetarian side.

This event has brought all of Maine South High School together. We have involved our Entrepreneurship, Broadcasting, and Graphic Design classes, along with our FCCLA chapter and Maine South Presidents club; not to mention the business side of our student cafeteria, Quest Food Management Services and even there distributor GFS Food Services,

We are hoping, as a school, to raise well beyond the point of last year's fundraiser of almost $3,000. The money will be raised through T-Shirt and refreshment sales during the competition; GFS and Quest have also been kind enough to donate the food and manpower necessary to produce reproductions of the winning dishes, which will be sold the following week in the student cafeteria at full profit to the school wide fundraiser.

As a school with this money we are hoping to help the American Red Cross but more specifically the victims of Superstorm Sandy and the Sandy Hook School shooting incident.
