Estēe Lauder comes to life in first person portrayal May 14 at Summit
Saleswoman. Cosmetics Queen. Millionaire, a historical portrayal of Estēe Lauder, is scheduled at The Summit of Uptown Wednesday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m. Wine, cheese, canapés and desserts at 5:30 p.m. will precede the program. There is no charge, but reservations are required by Friday, May 9, by calling call 847-825-1161, ext. 129.

Inspired by the book Estée: A Success Story by Estēe Lauder, the first-person program by Leslie Godard that is set in 1972, introduces the woman with extraordinary sales ability and inventive marketing who turned her love for beauty into a cosmetics empire. Targeting salons and high-end stores, the woman who was born Josephine Esther Menzer eventually launched Estée Lauder, Inc., with her Youth-Dew beauty oil. For women who came of age in the 1960s and 70s, the program will be an aromatic trip down memory lane as they are reminded of such signature fragrances as Estée, Azurée, and Aliage that were introduced during those years.

Leslie Goddard holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University specializing in U.S. history and American studies, as well as a master’s degree in theatre. A former museum director and author of two books on Chicago history, she has been performing and speaking for 10 years at libraries, museums, schools and clubs around the Chicago area.
Saleswoman. Cosmetics Queen. Millionaire is just one of a variety of programs and activities presented by The Summit of Uptown. Guests are encouraged to arrive early or stay late for tours of the newly renovated retirement community. Parking is always available in the City’s central parking lot and the Uptown lot across the street.
