Cops to Ticket Seat Belt Violators This Weekend

Seat belt enforcement will be in effect from July 4-7.

In a continuing effort to help keep the roads safe this holiday weekend, Cook County Sheriff’s Police will conduct enhanced patrol enforcement over the Independence Day weekend, Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said today.

Sheriff’s Police officers will be on the lookout for seat belt law violators throughout Cook County during the nighttime hours from July 4 through July 7. They will also conduct extra patrols for various traffic violations during the same time period.

This weekend’s enforcements are funded through grants from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).

The patrols are done to help remind motorists to drive safely. In Illinois, motor vehicle crashes killed more than 50 people over the last five Independence Day holiday periods, according to IDOT.
