Park Ridge Firefighters Help Fight Niles Fire

A Saturday afternoon blaze demolished a Niles home's detached garage, burned part of the garage next door and caused some damage to the house.

 

The Niles Fire Department is investigating the cause of a Saturday fire which demolished a garage in the 7900 block of Park Avenue, near Wisner. Park Ridge firefighters assisted.

Lieutenant Orlando Diaz said Niles firefighters got a call at 3:15 p.m. were on the scene by 3:20 and had the fire under control within about 30 minutes. They remained on the scene until about 5:25 p.m. checking to be sure the fire had not spread behind walls and completing investigation work.

The home's garage was a total loss, Diaz said, and there was significant damage to the garage of the home next door to the west.

"There was a small amount of damage to the house from radiant heat," Diaz said. "A couple of broken windows, and the house was scorched--but it's livable."

No residents or firefighters were injured. 

The North Maine Fire Protection District and Park Ridge, Glenview and Morton Grove fire departments assisted at the scene.
