An Arlington Heights woman has been charged with stealing about $600,000 from Allstate.

An Arlington Heights woman has been charged with stealing about $600,000 from Allstate Insurance Company.

Lisa Sterner, 51, was arrested at her home by Cook County Sheriff's deputies and charged with theft and money laundering. Police said that Allstate contacted them in March to report that Sterner, a former payment annuity specialist had taken money for her personal use.

Police said an investigation discovered that Sterner had diverted returned annuity checks electronically into an account under the name of Nicole Sterner from October 2007 to March 2013. The transfers were made using an Allstate computer system ID and password belonging to Lisa Sterner.

The return payments were supposed to go to Allstate.

Allstate discovered the discrepancy when a beneficiary contacted the company looking for a payment and it was discovered that the payment had been deposited into another account.

Sterner worked for Allstate for 30 years before being fired in March.
