Two Men Survive Fiery Crash

Two men are lucky to be alive after the car they were in struck a guardrail, rolled over and became engulfed in flames.

The Lake County Sheriff's Department responded to the crash about 3:15 a.m. Thursday on Rollins Road west of Route 45.

According to the release a black Mercedes SUV traveling Eastbound Rollins Rd West of RT 45 struck a guard rail on the North side of the road.  The vehicle overturned once and became engulfed in flames.

The driver Justin Schulze, 23, of the 18000 Block of Lindenwood Dr Wildwood and passenger John Bruhn, 29, unknown address, were able to exit the vehicle.  The two were transported to Condell Hospital. Bruhn’s injuries include an amputated foot and broken ribs. Schulze suffered minor injuries.

Libertyville

Woman Charged With Prostitution at Dragon Spa

On Tuesday, Jan. 8, a joint investigation between the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Libertyville Police Department resulted in the , of the 300 block of Cermak Road in Chicago. 

The month-long investigation began after law enforcement received an anonymous tip that the Dragon Spa, located at 402 Peterson Road in Libertyville, was offering sex acts for money.

Three detectives received hour-long massages. On Jan. 8 around 1:00 p.m., Yang offered to massage one of the detectives’ genital area for an additional fee. With the assistance of Libertyville Police Department, Lake County Sheriff arrested Yang.

Palatine

Woman Gets 5 Years In "Huffing" Crash

Karli M. Casey of Palatine was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday for causing a multi-car crash after .

Casey pled guilty to four counts of great bodily harm. . Four people, including two passengers in Casey's vehicle were seriously injured. 

Casey, who was 19 years old at the time of the crash, turned 20 while in custody. After her sentencing, she told the family of the victims that she was sorry for what happened to their family, according to Sharon Johnson, a victim's advocate with The Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists. 

The most seriously injured victim, 84-year-old Apalonia Rilloraza required 24- hour care. They are hoping and praying that she gets better, Johnson said.

Skokie

Hair Salon Bandit Strikes Again

Two Skokie hair salons have been robbed at gunpoint in two weeks, and police believe one man is responsible for both crimes.

Officers responded to an armed robbery call at Supercuts, 3539 Dempster St., on Jan. 10 around 12:25 p.m. The suspect entered the hair salon, displayed a black revolver and demanded money, police said. It is unclear at this time how much money the man stole and no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Police said the most recent hair salon employee identified the armed (pictured attached). Authorities also believe the offender is responsible for similar robberies in Niles, Bensenville, Lombard, Glen Ellyn, Morton Grove and Chicago.

Police believe the culprit typically strikes early in the morning or late in the evening and choses a hair salon in a strip mall. The suspect is described as a white male, about 6-feet-tall, 200 to 230-pounds and being anywhere from 35 to 45-years-of-age, police said. At this time, no further information is available.

Arlington Heights

Woman Killed In Crash

An Arlington Heights woman is dead after a Wednesday collision between her passenger vehicle and a Freightliner sem-trailer truck at Palatine and Wheeling Roads in Wheeling. 

The crash occurred at 11:26 p.m., according to a press release from the Wheeling Police Department, and involved the 2010 semi-trailer and a 2002 Mazda Protoge driven by the 55-year-old woman. 

Deputy Chief John Teevans of the Wheeling Police Department said the identity of the victim will be withheld until all family notifications have been made.

McHenry County

Burglars Targeting Copper Pipes of Vacant Homes

The McHenry County Sheriff’s office is asking residents to be on the lookout for suspicious vehicles and people in the wake of burglaries where offenders broke into homes and cut copper piping from the basement.

Deputies have taken numerous reports of abandoned and foreclosed properties being burglarized in Marengo, Wonder Lake and McHenry since December, according to a Crimestoppers Bulletin.

Generally, the offenders force entry into the home and use cutting tools to strip copper pipes from the basement of these homes, the bulletin stated. It is also common for offenders to take air conditioner units and other large appliances which house copper inside them.
