Robbery Prompts Lockdown of Maine South, Daycare Facility in Park Ridge

The robbery occurred in Des Plaines, but the suspect fled east into Park Ridge, prompting police to notify the high school and a daycare at Maine Park on Sibley, which both locked down.

A suspect robbed a Shell gasoline station at Oakton Street and River Road in Des Plaines Thursday, then fled east into Park Ridge, said Park Ridge Police Commander Lou Jogmen.

No suspects were in custody related to the robbery on Thursday evening, Des Plaines police confirmed.

Police notified Maine South High School, which went into soft lockdown mode around 1:30 to 2 p.m., said Dave Beery, communications director for Maine Township High School District 207. A soft lockdown means students stay in their classrooms, with lights on and classes continuing, but do not leave those rooms until the lockdown is lifted. Security at entrances is also diligent, Beery said.

Police also briefed the Park Ridge Park District, which locked down a daycare facility at Maine Park Leisure Center on Sibley Blvd., between Riverside Drive and Dee Road, Jogmen said.

Beery said the high school lifted the soft lockdown when police informed them the suspect was no longer in the area.

Jogmen said at about 4:20 p.m. Thursday that Des Plaines police are handling the case and Park Ridge police are no longer involved.
