If Moylan Elected to House, Interim Mayor To Serve Des Plaines

Des Plaines Mayor Martin Moylan would step down as mayor if he wins the 55th House District and allow city council to appoint an interim mayor until the election in April.

Des Plaines Mayor Martin Moylan would step down as mayor, he said, if he is successful in his bid to represent Illinois’ 55th House District on Nov. 6, the Chicago Tribune reported. If he is defeated by Park Ridge’s Susan Sweeney, he would run for mayor again, he said.

Mulligan’s petition signatures were challenged in January and she did not appear on the primary ballot, and did not receive enough write-in votes in order to appear on the ballot in November. Mulligan is also the committeeman for the Maine Township Republicans.

A message left at the city clerk’s office regarding the process of appointing an interim mayor was not returned at publication time.
