Summer Camp Guide 2013 for Park Ridge

Start planning now. There are lots of options for your kids, from day camps to overnight camps, specialty camps, sports camps, ice skating camps and more.

 

With the choice and variety of summer camps available in the Niles, Morton Grove and Park Ridge area in 2013, boredom won't be an option for local children.

Organizations from the YMCA, school districts and local parks and recreation departments offer dozens of camp choices focused around science, reading, sports, music and more. Whether you're looking for an all-around experience or a more focused camp, this list features a few in the area and nearby.

Park Ridge Park District 

Where: At Maine Park Leisure Center, 2701 W. Sibley, Park Ridge, and other locations.

Information: Summer day camps are offered for children starting as young as two, and through about age 13. There are recreation camps, sports camps, nature camps, and specialty camps. Specialty camps include dance, skateboarding, chess and other specialtes. Some camps include swimming and field trips.

District 64's Worlds of Wonder

What: Fun classes include cooking, photography, sports, music, writing and illustrating a book, and more. It's a program, not a camp.

Where: For grades K-3, at Washington School, Park Ridge; for grades 4-7, at Lincoln Middle School, Park Ridge. 

Information: Kids can sign up for as many as two classes daily, offered at 8:30 am. and 10:10 a.m. View a list of classes offered. Early bird prices are offered through April 29. 

TLC (Total Learning Community) at District 63

What: Classes in the morning, and a day camp experience in the afternoon.

Where: It will be held at Nelson School, 8901 N. Ozanam, Niles; it is air conditioned.

Information: Camp dates are June 17th to July 19th. Before-camp care is available. More information. 

Jefferson School (Dist. 64) Summer Camp

What: Fun, and learning, too.

Where: Jefferson School, near Oakton and Prospect, Niles. 

Information: Camp dates are June 10 to Aug. 21, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Camp is offered for grades K-6. Check the website.  

Niles Park District

Niles Park District offers myriad summer camps, including recreation camps, sports camps and Ice Land camps, both half-day and full-day, to fit a variety of schedules. We can't list them all, but here is a sampling. Visit the Niles Park District summer camp website to access a full list and more information. Parent Orientation Night is June 6. 

The camps also offer before- and after-camp options.

RECREATION CAMPS

Where: Various locations, including Oasis Fun Center, 7877 N. Milwaukee Ave., Niles, and other parks.

Information: Camps are available for ages 3-4,3-6, 5-6, and Kindergarten through sixth grade, with various options for activities and times. Camps include games, swimming, crafts, field trips and more.

SPORTS CAMPS

Where: Various location, including Grennan Heights Park, Odell and Keeney, Niles. 

Information: Sports camps are available for a wide range of age groups.

ICE LAND CAMPS

Where: Ice Land, Ballard Road and Cumberland, Niles. 

Information: Summer day camps include ice skating and other activities.

Leaning Tower YMCA

DAY CAMPS

Where: Leaning Tower YMCA, 6300 W. Touhy Avenue, Niles

Information: The YMCA offers day camps, swim classes, fitness, fun and more.

SLEEP-AWAY CAMPS

Where: Various locations, such as Camp Duncan and Burlington, Wisc.

Information: The Y offers young campers a chance to get out into nature and sleep in a tent. There's even a family camp, in which families can camp together.

Morton Grove Park District

Where: Morton Grove Park District locations, including Harrer Park, 6250 W. Dempster, Morton Grove, and others. 

Information: Summer day camps are offered for the following age and grade levels: 4 to 5 years old, Kindergarten to second grade, third through fifth grade, sixth through eighth grade and Leaders in Training. Before- and after-camp care is also offered.

Niles Family Fitness Center

Where: The Niles Family Fitness Center is located at 987 Civic Center Drive, at the southeast corner of Oakton Street and Waukegan Road, in the Niles Government complex. 

Information: Summer day camps offer fun, games, swimming and field trips. Camp Little is for ages 2-5. Camptastic is for ages 6-11.

Notre Dame College Prep Camps

What: There are academic camps, including painting, band and scholastic bowl; and athletic camps, including basketball, baseball, football, wrestling, lacrosse, tennis, volleyball and more. Although it is a boys' school, there are some opportunities for girls.

Where: At Notre Dame College Prep, 7655 W. Dempster, Niles.

Italian Camp at Casa Italia

What: Learn Italian, make pizza, play soccer, create frescoes and other artwork, and visit the child-sized piazza marketplace. 

Where: Casa Italia, Stone Park. 

Information: June 17 to July 12, half-day or full-day, ages 4 to 16. See the flier.
