Starbucks at Night: Beer, Wine, and Brie Coming

Starbucks plans to expand the number of locations that carry its after 4 p.m. menu.

Starbucks is expanding again.

But this time its expanding its reach into your daily life. Sure, maybe you spend all morning there and maybe even into the afternoon. But at some point its time to put that peppermint mocha down, shut off the computer and go somewhere else.

Well, not anymore.

Starbucks is planning to expand its evening menu nationwide after a successful test in 40 locations. That means you'll be able to shift from the sweet, delicious caffeinated beverage to a nice glass of Pinot Grigio or perhaps a cold beer (ask your barista about the current beer selection).

"We've tested it long enough in enough markets – this is a program that works," Starbucks CEO Troy Alstead told the Chicago Tribune. "As we bring the evening program to stores, there's a meaningful increase in sales during that time of the day."

Some of the current evening menus include items such as parmesan-crusted chicken skewers with honey-dijon sauce; blue brie cheese with toasted walnut cranberry bread and fig preserves; and of course, chocolate fondue.

Company officials say the evening menu won't work everywhere. The after 4 p.m. menu has worked best in urban areas and at Starbucks that are near other restaurants.
