VIDEO: Tornadoes Kill at Least 18 in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Iowa

A series of tornadoes struck the central United States Sunday night, devastating two communities in Arkansas.

At least 18 people died Sunday in tornadoes that tore through the central United States, NBC News reported.

Vilonia and Mayflower Arkansas were among the hardest hit communities. NBC News reported at least 10 people were killed in those communities and dozens of homes destroyed. Video of the tornado that hit Vilonia and Mayflower, which grew in size to half-a-mile wide, is attached to this post.

"It's been a truly awful night for many families, neighborhoods and communities, but Arkansans always step up to help each other recover," Gov. Mike Beebe said via Twitter.

One person was reported killed in Quapaw, Oklahoma and another death was reported in Iowa.

Relief efforts already are underway. The Salvation Army is accepting donations as part of disaster relief:
