Park Ridge Teen Honored for Volunteer Efforts

The 18-year-old has made a difference in thousands of children's lives by delivering handmade cards to them in the hospital.

A Park Ridge teenager has been recognized for her volunteer efforts by the Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program.

Jen Rubino, founder of “Cards for Hospitalized Kids” has been given a $1,000 scholarship toward her education by the program. Rubino’s non-profit organization creates and distributes handmade cards to more than 20,000 hospitalized kids in the country.

Rubino is one of ten teens in the Chicago area chosen for the award. Winners are chosen based on initiative, leadership, generosity and project benefits and outcomes, according to a press release.
